Ceramic Coaster - Gold

A handmade ceramic coaster with a glaze inspired by Iris by John Atkinson Grimshaw. A celebration of moonlight within art. 

Each coaster and mug is made from MJ Originale, a stoneware clay originating from the  Burgundy region in France. Being stoneware, the pieces have been fired to ~1250 degrees Celsius and are fully vitrified (non-porous). Whilst it is therefore true the pieces are dishwasher safe, it is recommended to hand wash. This is because any ceramic glaze can lose some of its lustre over time due to the salts in dishwasher tablets. Each piece is hand thrown by Phil Ankers in his home studio in Leeds.

The glaze is an iron based glaze, whose gold coloured crystals form during the cooling stages of firing in the kiln. The glaze was developed by The Glaze Club at Sunken Studio in Leeds, of which Phil is a member. Each piece is also fired in the kilns at Sunken Studio.

Each coaster has a slight concave surface to allow the matching mug to sit perfectly on top. Due to the handmade nature of these pieces, there will be slight variations to the photographs. Please get in touch if you would like further images.
